CAD Casino Accounts in British Columbia: Operator Fees Versus Bank Fees
In British Columbia, the province’s own site keeps everything in Canadian dollars: the Government of BC says PlayNow.com is the only legal online gambling site in BC, PlayNow lists amounts in CAD, including poker deposits and chips, BCLC charges no deposit fees, and withdrawals go to your bank account by electronic funds transfer. On a CAD account the costs that remain come from outside the casino: card issuers or banks may charge on deposits, and banks set their own e-Transfer limits and cancellation fees. On sites that accept CAD but keep their books in another currency, conversion can add a third cost. We read PlayNow’s help and contact pages and other casinos’ payment terms on October 19 and 20, 2026.
What are the three kinds of cost?
Separate them before you compare casinos, because each comes from a different party:
- Operator fees. Charged by the casino itself for a deposit or withdrawal.
- Bank fees. Charged by your bank, card issuer or an intermediary bank on the transfer.
- Conversion. The difference between the amount in Canadian dollars and the amount after a currency exchange, when the casino’s internal currency is not CAD.
When a casino says “no fees”, check which of the three it means.

How does PlayNow handle CAD, fees and withdrawals?
PlayNow is operated by BCLC for players located in BC, and you must be 19 or older. From PlayNow’s help and contact pages:
- Currency. Amounts are in Canadian dollars, and poker deposits, limits and chips are in CAD.
- Deposits. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Interac e-Transfer, PayPal, Online Bill Payment and Web Cash, from a C$5 minimum. BCLC does not charge deposit fees; PlayNow notes that some card issuers and banks may.
- Withdrawals. All go to your bank account by electronic funds transfer. BCLC asks you to allow up to three business days to process, then about one business day for the money to arrive.
- Rules to know. Withdrawals should consist only of winnings; unused deposits can be refunded to the original payment method. A balance above C$250,000 must be reduced within 72 hours.
With a CAD balance and an EFT to a Canadian bank account, there is no currency conversion on PlayNow’s side. In calendar terms, a withdrawal requested on a Monday can be processed by Thursday and arrive around Friday; one requested late in the week runs into the weekend, because both stages count business days.
Where do bank fees appear?
On the deposit side, mostly. iGaming Ontario’s player FAQ makes a point that holds for any casino: each financial institution has its own rules and fees for gaming transactions. Interac says each institution also sets its own e-Transfer limit, and that cancelling an e-Transfer before it is accepted may cost a fee. PlayNow adds that a first Interac e-Transfer may be held up to 72 hours by a bank security check.
Ask your bank two things before the first deposit: whether it charges on gaming transactions by card, and what your e-Transfer limit is.
What do other casinos for players in Canada state about CAD?
Some brands that publish terms for players in Canada also offer CAD, with different details on currency and fees:
- JeetCity accepts CAD with a C$20 minimum deposit, and its FAQ says transactions are free of charge. Its terms add that the internal operating currency is the euro, so a card charge in another currency may differ slightly because of conversion, and that intermediary banks may charge up to about C$24 on a bank transfer payout.
- Spinrise lists CAD among its account currencies, with a C$20 minimum deposit.
- HeroSpin and Wildsino publish payments pages for Canada in Canadian dollars, with Interac withdrawals from C$10 and C$30 up to C$3,000.
- NorthSpin states its withdrawal maximums in CAD: C$7,500 per day and C$15,000 per week.
- Holyluck lists CAD among its currencies but sets its minimums in euros: a 20 EUR minimum deposit and a 40 EUR minimum withdrawal, “or equivalent”. The CAD amount of those minimums moves with the exchange rate.
Our Interac withdrawal matrix lists their payment rows.
What do operator fees look like elsewhere?
Two examples from Ontario operators show what to look for in any casino’s terms:
- Fees on unplayed deposits. LeoVegas (Ontario) may charge 5% on withdrawals of deposits never wagered, and Casino Days (Ontario) says a processing charge may apply if deposits were not used for play.
- Fees by method. Luxury Casino (Ontario) charges nothing for CAD EFT withdrawals, C$50 for a direct bank transfer, and C$100 above C$3,000.
In Ontario, the AGCO’s standards require operators to show balances in Canadian dollars and to disclose all account fees before a deposit or withdrawal. Our page on Interac casino deposits covers the deposit side in more detail.
What we could not confirm
- PlayNow’s minimum withdrawal amount.
- The exchange rate or spread used by casinos whose internal currency is not CAD.
- Whether the brands above charge fees on particular methods: most list methods only in a logged-in cashier.
Check the costs before your first deposit
Write three lines: what the casino charges, what your bank charges, and which currency the casino keeps your balance in. If the third line is not “CAD”, ask support what rate applies on withdrawals. Then send a small deposit, check your bank statement against the amount credited in the casino, and note any difference before you deposit again.
