What this section covers, and why

Verification is the most common reason a first withdrawal takes longer than the casino’s headline time, and it is easy to confuse two different things: the identity check most casinos run when you open an account, and the extra documents an operator may ask for later, before a payout or at any time. This section separates the two and sets out what each operator says it asks for and how long it takes.

When does each casino check?

At sign-up or before you play. PlayOJO (Ontario) says verification to FINTRAC standards runs before your first deposit or game. Betty’s terms say you can bet only after identity verification and a deposit. Jackpot City (Ontario) offers live verification through Jumio, which it says is usually instant, with manual review taking a few hours.

At the first withdrawal. 888casino (Ontario) requires a photo ID for the first withdrawal and may ask for card copies or proof of address. Amazon Slots (Ontario) says a pending withdrawal may wait for photo ID and proof of payment method. Casino Days (Ontario) requires identity and anti-money-laundering checks to be complete before a withdrawal.

At any time. Betty may request ID and proof of address at any time, and may run a security review of identity, age and transactions, restricting access if documents are not provided. Casino Days may delay or cancel a withdrawal for extra checks.

What do casinos ask for?

The same few documents come up in every set of terms we read:

• Government photo ID. Jackpot City asks for it with proof of address no older than six months.
• Proof of address. Betty, 888casino and Jackpot City name it.
• Proof of the payment method. Amazon Slots and 888casino may ask for card copies or proof of the method.
• A payment account in your name. Betty says the account name must match the payment account name; BetRivers (Ontario) says the receiving account must be in the player’s name; OLG.ca pays only to the player’s own verified bank account.

How long does verification take?

Interac lists Interac Verified services that let a person verify their identity through their financial institution or by document verification. Whether a particular casino accepts it is up to the casino; we did not confirm which of the operators above use it.

Why does money go back the way it came?

Several operators pay withdrawals first to the methods you deposited with. 888casino (Ontario) pays back first to the deposit methods up to the amounts deposited, then the rest by Visa, Interac if used before, or wire transfer. Casino Days (Ontario) sends withdrawals first to the deposit methods. This is part of the same check: it shows the money is going back to an account that is yours.

Verify before you need the money

Complete verification as soon as you open an account: upload your photo ID and proof of address, and add a payment method in your own name.
